This Discord emoji resizer turns any picture or GIF into a 128 × 128 emoji that fits under Discord's 256 KB limit. Frame it, check it in a mock Discord chat at real emoji sizes, and download a file named after your emoji. GIFs stay animated, and if one is too heavy, the resizer slims it down until Discord will take it.
How to resize an emoji for Discord
- Pick a size: Emoji (128 × 128) or Sticker (320 × 320).
- Add your picture: drop it in, choose a file, or paste a copied image with Ctrl+V.
- Drag to frame it: zoom in on the face or object. Emojis are tiny in chat, so the subject should fill most of the square.
- Name it (optional): the file gets that name, so Discord fills it in when you upload.
- Download: PNG for still pictures, GIF for animated ones. The final size and the limit check appear under the button.
To add it to a server, open Server Settings → Emoji and choose Upload Emoji.
Discord emoji and sticker sizes
| Type | Size | File limit | Formats |
|---|---|---|---|
| Emoji | 128 × 128 px | 256 KB | PNG, JPG, GIF |
| Animated emoji | 128 × 128 px | 256 KB | GIF |
| Sticker | 320 × 320 px exactly | 512 KB | PNG (APNG for animated) |
In chat, Discord shows emojis about 22 pixels tall inside a sentence, 48 pixels when an emoji is sent on its own, and about 16 pixels in reactions. The preview shows all three, on the dark and light themes.
How GIFs get under 256 KB
The 256 KB cap is what usually stops an upload, not the pixel size. A two-second reaction GIF can easily weigh several megabytes. After cropping to 128 × 128, the resizer checks the file and, only if it's still too big, keeps slimming it down:
- It lowers the number of colors, as far as 16.
- It merges neighboring frames and adds their timing together, so the loop keeps its original speed.
It tries the gentlest combination first and stops as soon as the file fits, so a GIF that's already small keeps full quality. Still pictures saved as PNG fit easily at 128 × 128.
Tips for emojis that read at tiny sizes
- Crop tight. Fill the square with the face or object. Empty space only makes it smaller in chat.
- Use bold shapes. Thin lines and small text vanish at 22 pixels.
- Check both themes. A dark emoji can disappear on Discord's dark theme. The previews show both side by side.
- Keep the background see-through. Transparent PNGs and GIFs blend into any theme. When you zoom out, choose See-through to keep the extra space clear.
- Name it well. Names need 2 to 32 letters, numbers, or underscores. Short names like
happy_catare easier to type.
Emoji or sticker?
Emojis go inside messages and reactions, so they're small and you can use several at once. Stickers are sent on their own and appear big, about 160 pixels. Discord requires stickers to be exactly 320 × 320 and accepts PNG for still stickers and APNG for animated ones, so a GIF saved as a sticker here becomes a still PNG.
