Before you paste: things to know
Do not style entire messages. Style the first line as a header and keep the body in normal text. Full paragraphs of styled text are hard to read, hard to skim, and unsearchable.
Start with readable styles. Sans Bold, Serif Italic, Script, and Double-Struck cover 90% of use cases. Zalgo and heavy Deco styles are almost always unreadable in real chat. Save them for joke channels and horror game nights.
Test on mobile first. Discord's sidebar is about 230 pixels wide on most phones. A channel name that looks fine in your browser can wrap or get cut off on mobile. I test every styled name on my phone before I commit to it.
Watch for character limits. Some styles (Underline, Tilde Accent) add invisible combining characters after each letter, which doubles the character count Discord sees. A 10-letter name with underline styling can be 20+ characters. Use a character counter to verify.
Keep accessibility in mind. Screen readers like VoiceOver and NVDA can announce Unicode characters by their full block names ("Mathematical Sans-Serif Bold Small R" for every letter). That makes styled text unusable for blind users. Never use Unicode styling for rules, announcements, or anything people need to read.
The styled nickname will not save? Check: (1) character limit including hidden combining marks; (2) server bot settings that strip Unicode; (3) whether you are setting a username (strict) vs a nickname (lenient). Try a shorter text, simpler style, or switch to nickname.
Empty boxes or question marks? The viewer's device does not have a font covering those code points. Stick to Bold, Italic, or Bubble for the widest support.
