Use this strikethrough text Instagram editor to cross out words in captions, bios, and comments without HTML or Markdown. This editor adds Unicode line marks to your words, so you can copy a draft containing both plain and crossed-out text.

How to make strikethrough text for Instagram

  1. Type or paste your caption into the draft field.
  2. Choose Classic line, Short line, or Slash.
  3. Select the words you want to cross out and choose Strike selection. With no selection, Strike all applies the style to the entire draft.
  4. Review the caption or narrower bio preview.
  5. Copy the complete draft and paste it into Instagram. Check its appearance before publishing.

Unstrike selection removes the line marks from selected text. Unstrike all returns the whole draft to plain text while retaining accents and emoji. Applying a different line style replaces existing strike marks instead of stacking them.

Instagram caption and bio examples

Crossing out only a few words usually reads better than striking an entire paragraph.

The editor's example buttons load these mixed plain-and-struck drafts. Emoji and whitespace are left unchanged. Unicode line marks increase the length of the copied text, so the displayed character count includes them. The preview is a local draft, not a guarantee of Instagram's rendering or field-length acceptance.

Why Unicode instead of Markdown?

This generator copies actual text characters with combining overlays, rather than an HTML <s> tag or a visual CSS effect. It does not rely on Instagram interpreting double tildes as formatting. A combining mark follows the letter it modifies; your pasted text contains both.

Use the effect sparingly. Screen readers, search, and text selection can handle decorated text differently from plain text. Keep essential information readable without depending on the line-through effect.

Strikethrough text for Twitter and X

You can also try the copied draft in a Twitter/X post or profile field. The same Unicode output is used; there is no separate platform-specific conversion. Check the result in the destination app because fonts and text handling can differ.

For Discord messages, native ~~strikethrough~~ may be a better choice than Unicode overlays. See the Discord Fonts Generator for other Unicode styles.

Troubleshooting pasted strikethrough text

The line is uneven

Combining overlays depend on the destination font. Try Classic line for a continuous effect or Short line for shorter marks. Compare the result on the device where it will be read.

The app removes the marks

Some fields normalize or reject combining characters. This tool cannot override those restrictions. Use plain text if the pasted output is altered.

Only the old price should be crossed out

Select the old price in the draft, then apply the strike. The new price and surrounding words remain unchanged. The copy button copies the entire draft, not just the selection.

Frequently Asked Questions
Enter your caption or bio, choose a line style, and apply it to the whole draft or selected words. Copy the complete draft, paste it into Instagram, and check how it renders before posting.
Strikethrough text uses a Unicode combining character (Long Stroke Overlay U+0336) that is added after each character. This creates the appearance of a line through the text without using HTML or special formatting.
Try Unicode strikethrough in Instagram captions, bios, and comments, or in Twitter/X posts. Fonts and apps can render or strip combining marks differently, so check the pasted result. It is not native rich-text formatting.
The appearance of combining characters can vary between platforms and fonts. Some may show a thicker or thinner line depending on how they render Unicode. Mobile devices may display it slightly differently than desktop.
Discord messages support native strikethrough with two tildes on each side of the text. This generator instead copies Unicode characters; rendering and name-field restrictions can vary.
Yes, crossout text, cross out text, crossed out text, and strikethrough all refer to the same text effect - a horizontal line drawn through your words. Our tool creates this effect using Unicode characters.
