You can also select a quick example. The example puts styled text into the input field.

What the tool changes

The tool uses Unicode compatibility normalization. This process changes many character variants to their basic forms. For example, it changes mathematical bold letters, circled letters, and fullwidth letters to common Latin letters.

The tool can change these items:

  • Mathematical bold, italic, script, gothic, and double-struck letters
  • Circled letters and numbers
  • Fullwidth letters, numbers, spaces, and punctuation
  • Many superscript letters and numbers
  • Latin letters that have accent marks
  • Curved quotation marks and long dash characters
  • Some Latin ligatures and special letters
  • Zero-width spaces and byte-order marks

The tool keeps line breaks and common spaces. It also keeps the case of a letter when a plain equivalent is available.

What NonUnicode means

All text on the web uses Unicode. Therefore, the output is still a Unicode string. The term NonUnicode means plain text on this page. It means that supported decorative variants become common letters, numbers, and punctuation.

This tool does not convert text to a legacy font encoding. It does not make a font file. It does not change the font settings in a document.

Characters that do not change

Some Unicode characters do not have a reliable plain-text equivalent. The tool keeps these characters. This action helps to prevent data loss.

The tool does not transliterate all writing systems. For example, it does not change Arabic, Chinese, Greek, or Cyrillic text to Latin text. Emoji can also stay in the output.

Review the output before you use it in a system that accepts ASCII characters only. Remove each unsupported character if that system cannot accept it.

Accent marks

The tool removes combining marks from Latin letters. For example, it changes café to cafe. This action can change the correct spelling of a word or a name.

Keep the original text when accent marks are necessary. Use the plain output only when the target system cannot accept the styled or accented form.

Unicode style preview

The page also shows style previews below the plain output. Each preview uses the plain result as its source. You can compare the styles and copy one when you need styled text again.

Privacy

The conversion runs locally in your browser. Textavia does not upload or store the input for this conversion. You can clear both fields with the Clear control.
